Pay
About 10 euros or more per usability test, and 1 to 5 euros per bug on bug tests

What the work looks like

Testbirds runs tests for companies on its Nest platform. In a usability test you complete tasks and report your experience for a fixed fee. In a bug test you find problems and are paid for each unique bug. A third type, the BugAbility test, pays a fixed report fee plus extra for each bug. You test on real devices, and virtual machines are not accepted.

Getting in

Register on the Nest, complete your basic and advanced profile, and add at least one device. The entry test then appears. It is a one-time practice test with no regular payment, and a reviewer must approve your report before you can join paid tests. People under 18 can join with a signed parental consent form.

Pay

Testbirds pays in euros, and the amount you see in your own currency is only an estimate. Bug tests usually pay 1 euro for a low-severity bug and up to 5 euros for a critical one. Usability tests are a fixed payment after your report is approved, roughly 10 euros up to 50 euros or more depending on the test. Testbirds says about 10 euros an hour is typical at a normal pace. You can request a payout once your balance reaches 6 euros, by bank transfer or PayPal in SEPA countries, or through Payoneer elsewhere. Payday is the end of each month, and processing can take 30 to 40 days after your request.

Worth knowing

  • Testers are self-employed. You must give a tax identification number, or Testbirds cannot pay you out, and it reports tester data to tax authorities under EU rules.
  • PayPal can send money to you only in some countries. In a few, including Nigeria and Turkey, PayPal cannot receive Testbirds payments, so check your options first.
  • Work arrives in waves, so there is no guaranteed volume of tests.
  • Testbirds says its referral program rewards you with community points, not money.

Before you join

Payments are in euros, and you need a tax identification number before you can be paid out. Check eligibility and payout options for your country on the platform.
